Trouble getting any signal with ArcadeVGA / Jpac
« on: April 28, 2004, 05:14:56 pm »
Hi all,

I'm having real trouble getting a signal to my arcade monitor (or TV via S-video, computer either for that matter) to be able to install the drivers and get things moving! Andy from Ultimarc said that the image should be great when connected to the arcade, but all I get is the windows logo then it's too flickery to see anything else. Any suggestions? My monitor is a Nanao

The video mode changes several times when your computer boots. First is the BIOS, then the Windows loading, finally the desktop/logon is displayed. You have to adjust the monitor pots to get a good picture. It sounds like you need to adjust the h/v freq. Let it boot, then adjust it. If any one of the screens is fine, theres nothing wrong with your ArcadeVGA, JPAC or monitor.

If you're using an ArcadeVGA + JPAC you should be able to get a stable picture without installing the drivers. Install the drivers once you can see what you're doing. And you can't use ArcadeVGA with a PC monitor without having installed the drivers.

Hope this helps

No, the v / h hold's don't work - I've also had an email back from Andy asking if the LEDs are lit on the Jpac, but neither are - this may be something to do with the proB?

Yeah, I'd say that has everything to do with the problem.

Do you have both the keyboard and the VGA cable hooked up from the J-PAC to the computer?

Yes, I've tried hooking up the keyboard from the Jpac as well as video cable from jpac to the arcadevga port on the computer...man this is frustrating!

Do you have the VGA lead connected to the middle port on the ArcadeVGA? You also have to change the jumper on the JPAC for use with the ArcadeVGA... I think I had to anyway.

 ;D

Hi all - well, I've solved the problem. It was so stupid I could almost cry, well almost...I hadn't powered my arcadevga card with the USB cable...

I'm cooking with gas now, thanks to all for your input!

tim.

Ah, I should have been more clear.  When I asked if you had hooked up the keyboard cable, I was referring to the data cable, not an actual keyboard.  You also didn't mention which J-PAC you got, PS/2 or USB, so I assumed PS/2.  From the no lights problem, it was obvious you hadn't hooked up cables, but when you said the keyboard was plugged in, I was confused.

...yeah, I was confused too.. I was like, yeah the keyboard's in (not that I knew what difference that would make!) - anyway, I've learnt a helluva lot over the last day, I really had to do some serious reading / research so to me it was kind of worth it..  ;)

Try rebooting in Safe mode, and reinstall the ArcadeVGA drivers.  It could be that windows is trying to output using the stock ATI driver, instead of the ArcadeVGA driver.

Also, if the arcadeVGA drivers are properly installed, try choosing a non-interlaced Arcade resolution (such as 640x288), instead of an interlaced one (such as 640x480 or 800x600).
