Dreamcast and PC switcher??
« on: March 10, 2004, 02:24:41 pm »
I got good news today. My new Cab's 29 inch monitor is switchable to 15khz. ;D

Now I need to figure a way to switch between a dreamcast and a pc running Mame.

The pc will probably go out using an ATI card running 15khz. (here I come ultimarc)

the Dreamcast needs to be hooked up....Here's my question.

Can I hack a scart cable to output rgb at 15khz...
If yes
what would be the best way for me to switch back and forth from a pc to a dreamcast  for the Cab.

and Last. whats the best controller to hack for a control panel.

I'm going to start on the Cab this weekend!!!!!  :D

I used molex connectors to switch my arcade controls between the keyboard encoder and the DC controllers.  When I want to switch systems, I have to lift up my control panel and switch molex connectors, (Example: from controls to pc would be switched to controls to dc).

I used regular sega DC pads.  For more info about hacking them go here - http://members.cox.net/joysticks/

Hi jlampc !!

I also have a DC plugged into my 15 KHz arcade monitor using an RGB cable.
I have one question about the quality of the image.
The problem is that the image flickers in my monitor.I don't know why, but it seems to be like when I run Windows on it in a interlaced resolution.
When you finish your project can tell me how you see it ??

What kind of monitor is this?  And switchable between std res and med res? (or does it do vga/31khz?).

I find it easier to hack a DC-VGA box to output 15khz, and then just use a normal computer monitor switch box to switch between the DC and PC.

There are a couple older Dreamcast games (like StreeFighter 3) that output an interlaced signal.  Sorry no way around that.

I have a low-res arcade monitor (only 15 KHz)

I have the same problem with all the games except one Japan game called Black Matrix. With this the image is static.

If you are seeing a flicker when playing something like Soul Calibur at 15khz RGB, then its probably something to do with your monitor (may need adjusting).

Well to switch between my PS2 and DC pad I just used an SPDT switch and just used the switch to switch the grounds. Just one flip and I could use DC or just flip it again and I could use the PS2. This eliminated the purpose of trying to use a printer cable which I used once and I didn't really like it. Here's a link to the switch:

Thanx.
