eBay Problem - What Should I Do?

I own the domain greenmountainweb.com.  I didn't think I would be using it anymore, so I put it up for auction on eBay.

Problem is I still have a couple email addresses attached to this domain that I still use.  So I cancelled the auction, or so I thought I did.

Yesterday I'm informed that someone has won my auction, and sure enough it was not cancelled.  I email the guy and say it was a mistake, but I have another domain if he's interested.  He writes:

My bid went through at 13:40. The auction ended at 14:06. In addition, there was another bid after mine. So, not only was my bid not cancelled, the second bid was not cancelled and the auction was not cancelled. Whether it was "supposed" to be cancelled is irrelevant. It wasn't cancelled. In addition, the auction ended at higher than the opening bid. Also, you have already received my payment via Paypal.
 
You have enough feedback to know how ebay works. Your listing and my bid are contracts.
 
Please advise as to where the domain is registered. If I have an account there, I'll email you my userid to push the name into or I'll initiate a domain transfer.

So what do I do?  I guess it's not that hard to make the addresses change to something else.

Sounds like the guy is playing hardball right from the get-go. While I usually like to be an optomist, I think that you may just have to let those email addys go and inform those who have them of a new address. If the guy wants to be civil or rational (although from his post I would gather he DOES NOT), maybe you could ask him to foreward all incoming email to a new address of your choosing until all of your contacts know your new address.

Otherwise, you just may be SOL.

Did you try to cancel on sunday night?  I found that ebay was having problems big time.

Yeah, I'm trying to tie up those loose ends right now.

Sad thing is the domain expired on the day the auction ended, so I renewed it.  Cost me $12.00, and the auction was for $10.69.  Ah well, I lost a couple bucks.  Could be worse.

Doesn't sound like this guy wants to try to get along. It's a real shame. Most of the people I've delt with through ebay are easy to get along with, but once in a while you hit a real jerk. You'd think that for a $11 auction he'd just say okay and let it go at that.

Yup, I would have been happy to refund this guys money and take a neutral, and everyone parts on good terms, or him take the other domain in it's place (since it is useless to me now)

I think I've changed the email addresses to this domain (I think I got them all, hard to be sure) so I guess I can transfer it now.  I think I'll wait until tonight.

I don't think the guy is being unreasonable - look at it from his perspective.  This may sound unpopular, but the guy is correct.  If I bid on something that had not been cancelled, and I won, and then I used the info to pay the winner, I would expect to receive the goodies.  I have also bought enough stuff on ebay to get very suspicious when I recieve an email from the seller that doesn't say something like, "Thanks for your purchase." or "Your item has been shipped."

Business is business - I don't get on ebay to make friends.  Obviously I'm not saying Peale was acting 'suspicious', but you see my general point, yes?

Looks like the guy buys and resells domains.  I just wish someone bought it who would use it for something 'Vermonty.'

It is tempting to take the negative FB for this based on this blokes reply.  But quite likely I won't, and will do the right thing.

Take the negative.

And fight the negative feedback he gives you.  Since it's your first negative comment.  If you explain your reason for not selling the item.  Chances are eBay won't use that negative as a "Strike" against you.

That's what happened to me when I faught a Negative feedback.

Hey Peale...

have you sold/transferred a domain before?

Isn't it usually a pain to transfer ownership to someone else and isn't there fees associated with that?  Does that count as "shipping"?

(I'm curious more than anything)

*Shrug* unfortunately I'd eat the difference price wise, give up the domain, and keep your ebay reputation clean, but that's just my opinion.   I'd at least give ebay a ton of crap about not processing your cancel request, maybe you'll get your listing fees or some other compensation for their dork up.
