Swap meet find
« on: November 26, 2016, 01:02:51 pm »
Hi everyone. I've slowly been buying parts to build a mame cab for the garage. I was at the swap meet a few weeks ago and picked up this mini upright for 40 bucks. The guy said it had a casino game in it. I was intrigued by the bill counter so my buddy talked me into getting it. We took it home, cleaned it up a bit and noticed a relay that allows switching between two games with a remote. I should have known something was up as we had to grind off a lock to access the rear panel. One game is lucky new line and the other is some really old combat game.

I'm currently in the process of removing the combat game and putting in the PC I was going to use for my mame cabinet to have a greater game selection. I cleaned up the wiring a bit too. I'm also changing out the control panel. This should be fun.

They put a lot of effort into the inside... but that control panel is fugly!

Is that an unused unwired Peter Chou power supply just sitting on the right?

Oh no doubt. We got the print ticket thing to work and the only thing that came up in Google from the name on the ticket is a bar from North San Francisco. I'm in L.A. so it had quite the journey here. The counters have quite a lot of credits through them. The black box on the floor of the cab is a remote control switch that uses a key fob which I thought was clever.

You guys know you're stuff. Only one of the harnesses is connected to power the 8 lines slot. The power supply on the left is powering a game called combat school.

We got those illegal machines all over here. My store only gives store credit. If you go to the non American stores they pay out in cash if you buy a scratch off or something.

I've given up trying to follow the ever changing nuance of the laws on those machines in Texas.  There's a "game room" next to the Mexican restaurant I haunt and it's either very busy or obviously been raided and shut down.  When they're operating, off duty police serve as security.  An odd symbiotic relationship there.

Just a few updates. Cleaned up the wiring and ensured everything was grounded. Made a quick diagram to put in the cab to make it easy to remember what i did in the future. Added some beer holders to the top (the important stuff) and a switch to go between hyperspin and the slot game. I also added a piece of mdf across the top of the cab in order to add a marquee. Added some relays to share buttons between systems and made the control panel. The vga switcher currently isn't working and has me stuck at the moment.

Not too much better than the original panel but at least it's 2 person playable now. Wiring is completed and documented. Added the low budget marquee and light. The switch at the top is supposed to toggle between games but still struggling with VGA switching.

At the very least, take a black paint marker to those rough edges.

Otherwise looks pretty good.

I was cleaning out my garage and found the old jamma board that came with this cabinet and had to refer back to this thread to get the game name. I figured I would post the latest pic as 5 years later this thing is still in action in my garage. I touched up the paint to cover up the flaking particle board and also added some some side graphics and a marquee print.
