sorry if it's obvious and I'm just missing it, but where can I find a switchres binary for windows?

You need to build from github https://github.com/antonioginer/switchres if you want the latest version.

Care to explain how you do it without installing modelines ?
I can't figure it out, I thought you had to install correct modelines to let switchres pick them up?

BTW this version of maldita castilla is way better for CRT than the ex version, you'll get full screen on a 15khz monitor.
Enable vsync in config.ini if it isn't to remove tearing.
Resolution is 256x224@60
