DragonCade Control Panel Completed
« on: February 16, 2004, 11:04:21 am »
My control panel is completely finished now.
I wanted to get a working CP before continuing on with the rest of the cabinet. Now that this part is done, it's back to Lowe's for the MDF.
What do you think so far?

It looks decent.  I would have moved the controls more towards the center of the cp though..

Now with cup beer holders!

Yup, I had that exact same thought, DeathMonk, after I installed the joysticks.
I originally made a protype out of cardboard and it felt OK then, but after it was assembled I noticed they felt a little too far forward...too late now. Still plays fine.

Awesome!  Dragons dragons!!!!  Can't wait to see the marquee and sideart.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Yeah, Nannuu, based on your daughter's middle name, I can see that you like dragons.  :)

Very very nice.  Very creative artwork.  I think your control placement is fine.

I'm working on the marquee, but haven't decided on the sideart yet. I'm thinking it will be something non-traditional...like some sort of relief art or medieval banner, or something like that.

That looks great, but I do wonder why you made the panel so deep, it appears to be over twice as deep as it needs to be? Not that big of a deal, but it will end up making your resulting cabinet mega-deep as well. Fine if it is your only machine, but it might be harder to integrate other machines into the collection if that one is 18" deeper than the other ones.

It really isn't all that deep. The dimensions of it at it's widest parts are 32" wide by 17" deep...which compared to most custom control panels (not refurbish jobs) of others off this site seems right about average.
Perhaps it looks a lot deeper than it is because of the reason that DeathMonk pointed out...the controls are bit far forward... :-\

Ok, it looked more like 2 feet deep to me, which I thought was a bit overboard. Not that I would have even suggested changing it now, even if it was. Looks too nice!  ;D
