My Arcade Control Panel - Big pics!
« on: February 25, 2004, 11:35:33 pm »
heh, it's been a few months since I've last posted. Sorry been really busy with school and friends. I've had, had this built a few months a go, back in November if not a bit earlier than that.

BTW this is my first (I kid you not)! my first Arcade Panel I put together. I've just followed a lot of sites, asked a lot of questions, did a lot of good research, and put some of my eletronics engineering to the test while reading different guides by various builders of the past. Also I've revamped the design on the 2 player panel to reflect the underlay I have of the Marvel vs Capcom 2 japanese instructions to fit inbetween.

I got the wood from my high school teacher free and he provided me the tools as he was the former shop teacher at the school who now teachs computers in the old workshop room which had been changed into a computer lab which still has the main key workshop tools in a sperate room where I did the drilling and building of the panel.

Anywho, he gave me the wood and full access to the tools inexchange for a few cds worth of appz and games which I was more than happy to supply him with as I do it normally for him :)

Anyways I'm posting some pics up as to how it looks.
- I'm using the X-Arcade joysticks and buttons as I got them off ebay pretty cheap off an X-Arcade rep for like 20bucks for the total package which was a pretty damn good deal.
- Picked up the japanese Marvel vs Capcom 2 instruction page off ebay which I'm using as an underlay inbetween the players.
- Since this was made for the PSX/PS2 i'm using the full 8 Button layout with the Start Select buttons at the top.
- However I switched the Player 2's start and select buttons. I did this to reflect the use of Mame using the joystick program that I use for my PSX to USB converter. So the outer top buttons are the start button in mame and the inner top buttons are the coin in buttons.
- the buttons lay out is pretty much as follows for both players:
L1 | Sqr | Tri | R1
L2 |  X  |  O  | R2

It's 36x15x7.5 inches in demensions, primed and painted in black with plexiglass ontop of the Marvel vs Capcom 2 instructions, held down by 8 carriage bolts.

I have plans on making this Dreamcast compatible as well, as I have my PSX pads hooked up via barrier strips for such an occasion. I wanted a stealth black look to it which is what I've accomplished to do which i'm happy with.

Anyways here's a few pics of what it looks like:
( More pics and detailed info with pics can be seen at my site here: http://www.wclegacy.com/pirateface/myrig.htm )

Here it is sitting in my room, next to my computer:

Here's what the top panel looked like with the templates and plans written on the wood and you can see the written plans at the top of the pic:

Here's what it looks like up close in my room:

Here's what it looks like in my upstairs living room plugged into my PS2:

CP?  What CP? <continues to look at background on monitor>  ;)

Looks good to me.  I'm glad you posted a pic of just the wood with the layout.  All black buttons on a black CPO makes it difficult to see what's going on.  But the finish looks nice.

If you like that background so much you should just download it on the website he listed, it's in the gallery section...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Why a Japanese instruction card?

You speak/read japanese or what?  Or is it to look more arcade authentic?

Apart from that, nice space between players.

(a trackball would fit nicely in there though)

His website says he's can speak Cantonese so I'm presuming that's what it is.  Not really fair to his Canadian friends that can't read it, but hey, it's not their CP.  ;D

heh, I couldn't find the legit move list for the American Marvel vs Capcom 2 on ebay or anywhere else, but I did find the Japanese one. Besides I can read some of it anyways, but it's not like you can't figure out the pictures from instruction sheet.

Also, all my friends that comes over to play knows how to play MvC2 and any other fighting game, so the instruction sheet even though it's in Japanese is more of an eye candy effect making it look nicer :)

Like the wallpaper eh?  ;D

Nice! What did you do to the cp to give it that nice finish?

Bought 2 cans of Spray On Primer and did a nice even coat of it before I painted it black.
After it dried, I put on the Instruction Sheet and held it down with some double sided tape, topped it off with the plexiglass and held it down with some carriage bolts. Then the rest was buttons, wires, hookup, the rest of the stuff.

Man wiring work isn't fun, so many wires, i'm glad I took the time and labeled each wire though.
