A year or so ago we bought a digital camera. Not the top of the line, it's a Fuji FinePix 3800, but it's damn skippy for what we wanted to do with it. We figured that this would be one investment that would be well worth our while.
Fast forward to last night. I stepped out to get some sandwiches from D'Angelos. My wife was going to get the boys dressed in some nice clothes and take some pictures for the Christmas cards.
I get home, and she says that Riley (our youngest son (1 year)) dropped the camera. I ask, "What was he doing with the camera?" and she says that she put it on a desk in the living room, and he reached up and grabbed it.
The camera itself is fine, except for the focusing unit. Somewhere inside a gear has jammed, and it can't move the lens. I took it apart to attempt to fix it, but the lens appears to be one unit. I think it's made to replace the unit as opposed to repairing it. I certainly can't figure out how to take the darn thing apart.
I suppose if this were a one-time occurance I could let this go, chalk it up to a moment of mental disfunction. We all do it sometimes.
But stuff like this happens all the time. It's like she doesn't think before acting.
She had this bright idea to set up the Christmas tree in the living room. Now, the living room is one of two rooms our 1 year old can actually get to. I suggested the dining room, which is just off the living room, and it's still pretty. I knew that he would play with the ornaments (breaking them in the process) and/or chew on the lights, etc etc. Her response? "Oh, no he won't. He's old enough to know better."
So I said, "Why not. Let's set up the tree here and watch him."
Five minutes later the tree was moved into the dining room.
I'm just really ticked right now, and needed to let off some steam. That camera is/was my baby, one of the few decent things I own.
Anyone know of a good place to fix digital cameras, or get replacement parts?
