Application to DOS
« on: February 02, 2004, 12:27:40 pm »
Hey guys,
I know that you can configure Windows to open a specific application on startup, but is there a way to set an application to exit to DOS when it is closed or to shutdown?  In general I want Wndows to load to a specific application when Windows opens and then shut down when this application is closed... therfore hiding the Windows environment.  Thanks.

Although you don't have any problems yet, ditch windows me.  It's more trouble than it's worth.

I've been hearing that a lot Howard... Do you think If I just installed 98 over it and down graded that it would be ok?  Or should I format and then install 98 from scratch?  I don't have XP plus my machine is only a PIII 866 mhz so I think 98 would be my best option.

Actually a pIII 800 mhz is more than enough to run xp.  But regardless you need to format the drive and wipe out all traces of me first.  I know that sounds drastic, but it's THAT destructive.  As a matter of fact it's nearly impossible to "downgrade" to 98 without formatting the drive first.

Okay, I've read through the article on the site and I understand the different shut down and restart commands.  It explains how to create a desktop shortcut that will shut down or restart the computer when clicked on.  However, I still need need help on how I can implement one of these shutdown commands to activate when I exit a specific application in Windows.  Is there any way to do this that I'm missing?  Sorry if I'm bugging you guys and thanks for your help.

Okay... oops, I totally missed the part about creating a .bat file.  Alright, now that I've created a .bat file for shutting Windows down how can I associate that with the Application?

Okay I feel dumb.... I finally figured it out now!!!  I created a batch file to start the application followed by the shutdown command in the batch file and now I am in business!  Thanks for the helpful links. :D
