Connect 360 controller to PC

This is such a newb question but I have a 360 controller that I want to use with Steam on my PC.  Do I need a Bluetooth usb or do I need a new controller?

Go on Amazon or whatever site that has the official xbox360 PC SUB adapter.  Don't get the cheap knock off as it has problems recognising your controller.  Pair and happy steaming.

The cheap knock-off dongle works great if you install the driver correctly. One of the Amazon user reviews has instructions.

(I have an official MS dongle and a knockoff.)

I bought one of the clone units and they did not pair with the controllers.  Buyer beware.  ;)
