Best set-up for a DIY console R-Pi?

I have been seeing more and more affordable DIY computer kits that seem to be tempting for the foundation of a home built console.

What is the best DIY console platform?

Does anyone have and use a R-Pi as a console? Pro's / Cons? Let us know.

I believe there is a newer orange pi than that one.  They made it to compete with the pi zero w and it has really good specs and added Bluetooth compared  to the zero w.  I've been looking into it as a neat little project and the orange pi's seem to give you more for your money.  The only downside I can see versus the pi is that apparently the software community isn't as big, but I mean if you are going to use retro arch you are probably ok either way.
