Hi - I've received some very valuable knowledge and advice reading through these forums, so a massive thank you to everyone who has helped newbs like me (try to) optimize their home arcade experience.
I'm running an X-Arcade powered by an entry-level Dell on Windows 10. Unfortunately, when I try to use the latest MAME (0180), games like Kung-Fu Master and Kid Niki run unacceptably slow. There are threads on this board that indicate it's due to a change made at or after MAME 0162.
Therefore, I downloaded a version of MAME 0161 (from the Spanish site) already patched for hiscore and no nag. It also includes Forced DirectInput. I'm not sure what that adds, but it seems to be messing with my AimTrak lightguns, making them unusable. I've configured the .ini file properly, as my guns work just fine in MAME 0180 but show up as a mouse (with erratic jumping between corners of the screen even when everything is still) in the compiled MAME 0161. Another poster on this board had a similar issue.
So my question is... can I DISABLE the Forced DirectInput of the compiled version somehow?
Eventually I'd like to get a faster PC (something with an i3 or an i5, so I can play games like Kung-Fu Master using the latest and greatest versions of MAME) but I'll still need to solve this compiling issue. I have followed no less than 5 different "how to compile" threads, downloading buildtools, mame compiler 64, etc... and every time, there is some error that I cannot figure out. It's maddeningly frustrating. I'm no software developer, but I know my way around a computer, and I simply cannot get the compiling to work even when I follow the (extremely well done) guides on this forum precisely.
I'm giving up on compiling my own and therefore I'm hoping it's possible to disable Forced DirectInput... OR you may know another workout that enables the AimTrak guns to work even while Forced DirectInput is enabled.
Thanks again to anyone who can offer some help... I'm going crazy trying to get this to work.
