PC Monitor Ventilation

Hi,

I am putting a 21" dell monitor into a fairly tight monitor compartment in my cab.  Is overheating a problem?  What happens when a PC monitor overheats?

In general any monitor that doesn't get enough ventillation will heat up and bake the capacitors inside of it. This will cause shutdown and deflection problems. You will prematurely age your monitor and reduce it's life. It's also a fire hazzard.

I can take some heat, but take precautions.  Make sure you have ventilation holes on your cab.  And if you find that there's still too much heat, you may want to think about adding a fan.

Maybe take the back off the monitor too, to allow heat to escape more easily.

I have a defender style cab (pretty close to the Lusid plan).  I have left the bottom half of the back open, and I was thinking of putting some kind of ventilation holes on the slanted part of the back above the monitor.  What kind of holes would you use for vents?  Do you cover them with any screening?

My monitor shelf doesn't leave much of a gap for air to flow through from bottom to top.  It's 3/4" MDF, and the monitor is pretty heavy.  I'm a little worried about the structural integrity if I cut any holes in it.
