Can't get 2nd gun to work in AimTrak Utility Software -any help VERY appreciated

I've seen threads about this but none with answers to the question.
I've got GUN 1 (Aimtrak) calibrated and tracking perfectly in the Aimtrak setup software.  I know I have to assign a new ID number to each gun to use more than one.. this is where the problem is.
First let me say that when I plug a 2nd gun in, Windows finds it, installs driver.  All good there.
So in Aimtrack, however, it doesn't recognize any 2nd gun.  No matter if I have plug one or both in at a time, it says NO DEVICE under all other controllers but controller 1.   
I go to Change Device ID, and can change it for the controller 1 that it finds, but in ALL other instances it says NO DEVICE, and if I try to assign a new ID to those, it just says "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click OK, the application will close immediately.   Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

My mame, hyperspin, etc.. all running on WIN XP.  I assume this isn't the problem.  (I hope).
But can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing to simply get this 2nd gun set up in the Calibration of the Aimtrak software?    Really appreciate your help!!

When you set up 2 guns plug 1 in and set the device ID to any other number except ID 1.
Then plug the 2nd in that should register as ID 1
