Golden tee 2016 going to HD. No USB audio or 1080p
« on: May 15, 2016, 11:09:35 pm »
Hello all, I'm about to cut down my dedicated cabinet to add a new flat screen HDTV. I have a zotac 640GT video card and 2016 home software. In my initial tests It will only work in 720p mode on dip switches) as when I boot it up in 1080p mode it says the video card is not supported (which it should be) . Also I do not get any audio through the HDMI.

Anyone run into these issues before?

Yeah it's the nighthawk. There is only 1 hdmi port on the GT 640 video card. The others are dvi and vga, the HDMI is for the main display and works fine in720p. The upper monitor display comes from a DVI port. It's fine in 720 but I'm trying to get it to 1080p. Maybe I need to go to a 740GT card. That still doesn't explain the missing audio. Maybe there is a setting in the operators menu I need to change.

Just to update in case others run into this problem. I bought a new zotac 740GT from bestbuy and everything works Perfectly now. That is the only video card that supports 1080p, the others are 720p. I'll post my pics of my cabinet conversion.

Another thing to note that when you install the new video card and modify dip switches to 1080p the speakers will no longer play any sound, the only sound you get will be through HDMI on the TV, which is crappy. I'm not sure if there is any way around this. I would like both the TV and the game speakers to work together.

If it's a modern TV, it should have audio out. There should be a red and white RCA jacks labeled audio out on the back of your TV. You can probably use these to get audio from your speakers.

check your dipswitch settings on the IO board.

one of the settings is meant for FHD HDMI that has audio going out through the HDMI. the other is meant for FHD DVI that does not have audio, and instead outputs audio through the amp and out the JAMMA harness. but either setting works with either connection. (it's just a matter of which one is hooked up at boot time.)

It ended up having nothing to do with the dips, it was the new 740gt video card. As I left the dips the same to test and swapped the 9500 with the 740gt and could only get audio with HDMI. Swapped cards back and the audio worked again. Not a big deal, I ran a cable from the headphone jack on the TV to the audio input on the I/O board to get better sound through the machine speakers. In a perfect world I would like to have both audio through the tv and machine, but that doesn't seem possible.

computers are kind of weird now a days. you used to be able to output audio to multiple outputs...even have different audio from different programs and sources output to specific outputs. you now have to choose one or the other.

I used to be able to play a movie and it's audio via HDMI whilst gaming on another monitor via VGA and have the game audio output the headphone out. no crosstalk, no mixing or anything. you can't seem to be able to do that anymore without a bunch of farting around with mixing programs. I don't know if it's a hardware thing, or an OS thing. you'd think if you have multiple audio devices on your system, you should be able to pick and choose.

as for GT golf... the 9500GT card uses a SPDIF digital output on the motherbpard with the audio fed into the card and out the HDMI through a 2 pin cable. The 740 has a separate built in audio device independent from the computer audio system. the 9500GT gets it's audio from the motherboard audio system. this is why the sound works with one card and not the other. the 740 is taking over the audio control from the system.

Yes agreed with the 9500gt, the only odd part is I also have a 640gt video card which also does not play sound through the HDMI from everything I could find it should have. I ended up replacing it with the 740gt as the 640gt only gets 720p and I thought since I did all that work I wanted 1080p. I'm sure there is no difference but it makes me feel better somehow. Also it was on sale at bestbuy.  :applaud:
