MAME 0.171 help, BIOS issue?
« on: March 28, 2016, 01:51:06 pm »
just d/l'd the full 0.171 set. I checked the set and then rebuilt it into a non-merged set so I'd have all the needed files inside of the clones and vice versa.

After this I started to filter the games so I could trim it down to just the ones I wanted.

When I removed Street Fighter EX (for example). I'd list the new path (that I moved it to) under the directories option and save the config. It would show available and working but I get an error missing rom or chd message. I also moved all the BIOS roms (including cpzn1 and cpzn2 which are the bios for capcom titles) into the new directory as well but no love.

When I move the roms back to the main rom folder (with the full romset plus bios roms) it launches fine. Before the game starts it gives me a BIOS selection screen of "standard" or "developmental".

I can only assume after I move my roms to the new directory that Mame is looking for this BIOS selection. But I have no idea which one it is. Any help?

Just checked for you and by renaming my roms directory and starting the game it shows the screen in attachment 1 below when launched.

If you look at that screen in the NOT FOUND list it shows (tried in the following folders)
Quote
sfexu sfex cpzn1 sfexu and under qsound.bin it also lists qsound

So by copying those listed rom zips into a new roms folder I wound up with attachment 2 below - tried relaunching the game with just those roms in the roms folder and the Street Fighter ex (USA) version launches fine !

SO you need those 4 zip files in your roms folder for Street Fighter EX USA version. Chances are you were missing the qsound.zip file which is the sound system for many of the capcom games ! (Also - it doesn't list cpzn2 - so you shouldn't need it for this game at least)

Not sure -- I just launch the game and the screen comes up at launch - for example here is a screen capture after renaming qsound.zip and launching. (Which you can see lists qsound.bin missing and the 4 folders it looked for it in which makes tracking it down easier since you know what zip files to look for)  and upd78081.655 also not found but says No GOOD DUMP KNOWN - so there is not a good dump of that file available but the game works without it.

A full complete set is 100% complete after you finish downloading it. You're having problems because you chose to screw with it after the fact which is a complete waste of time.
Leave it alone the way you download it and all the games will launch without missing blah blah blah messages.

It was a simple fix. I didn't want 40gb of roms I'm never going to play on my drive.
