CPwizard 2nd Monitor / GroovyMame / Mimo (Resolved)
« on: December 03, 2012, 10:36:42 pm »
I'm having some trouble getting CPwizard to work consistently with a 2nd monitor.  I'm using GroovyMame with a D9800 as the main monitor and a Mimo 7" USB monitor as the secondary.  I was able to get it working exactly how I would like before I installed the computer in the cabinet.  At that time the primary monitor was a 15" lcd.

I'm running GroovyMame from the command line and am not using a front-end yet.  What happens is that when I start the game the Mame window is minimized and I get the desktop on my main screen.  Sometimes the CPwizard loads properly on the 2nd monitor and sometimes it partially loads on the main monitor.

After I test I also notice that the checkbox for enabling the sub-monitor will be turned off for some reason.  I can turn it back on but it resets after I test again.

I'm not sure what the deal is as it was working fine with the LCD/Mimo combination.

Any help would be appreciated.

Totally random thoughts..
have you put it back to how it was to test?
Is the usb monitor in the same usb port?  (usb ports have different ids and stupid stuff happens with usb which shouldn't.)

I've tried the Mimo in different ports but it doesn't make a difference.  The big problem I had is that the CPwizard settings didn't stay the same when I moved the computer. Very odd.

When I launch Mame the game will start and then after a couple of seconds CpWizard will launch properly on the second monitor. At the same time Mame will minimize in the main monitor showing my desktop. After a few more seconds Mame will automatically take focus on the main monitor and CPWizard will no longer show on the 2nd monitor. Mame becomes unresponsive at this point.

I'll post pictures of my settings later.

Here are a couple of screen shots of my CPwizard settings.

The check box I circled in red gets unchecked after each time I try running Mame/CPwizard.

You can't have the main CPWizard display and Sub Screen set to the same monitor.

So to get CPWizard to work as I want should I have the Screen set to Display1 and the Sub Screen set to Display3?

Thanks headkaze.

The Sub Screen is designed to show marquee's, snapshots, your CP, game info and other related media that doesn't require user interaction. The main screen is designed to minimize the MAME game screen and show a menu system for more detailed information such as the game's history, control data etc. some of which requires user interaction.

So you should have the main screen set to show on the same screen MAME is running and the Sub Screen set to a secondary monitor for displaying information while you play.

I went home over lunch to give that a shot.  Having the main screen set to Display3 was part of the problem.  I also unchecked the "Enable" for Auto-Show for Game Start and now everything seems to be working great.

Thanks for your prompt responses Headkaze.  I'm very impressed with CPwizard so far.

I figured out part of my original problem and thought I would document it here.  It appears that if you remove the 2nd monitor CPwizard will "forget" about it and you have to reenter the subscreen settings the next time you plug in the monitor.  I booted the computer once without the 2nd monitor plugged in after I moved it into the cabinet.   Not a big deal now that I know which settings to check.

I thought I had this licked but I found a new problem.  When I exit MAME CPWizard will continue to display but on half the main monitor and half the 2nd monitor (see attached picture).  This happens both in DOS and from MALA.  I assume I need to get CPWizard to exit once the game is exited but I can't figure out how to do this.  I did try to configure CPWizard to not run in the Taskbar and only start in MALA once a game is selected but I'm seeing the same behavior.

Anybody else seen this before?

Re: CPwizard 2nd Monitor / GroovyMame / Mimo - New Problem
« Reply #10 on: March 19, 2016, 07:52:42 pm »
Moving the Mimo monitor (in Windows) to by logically above my main display appears to have fixed this problem.  Also having the Mimo logically to the left-side was causing a number of problems as windows would scroll off onto the Mimo.

Just wanted to close the loop on this in case someone else runs into this problem.
