Layout per emu set up mala
« on: January 16, 2016, 02:42:37 am »
Ok so I've downloaded a few layouts to match the consoles I'm emulating through Mala and I'm a lil confused.

I know I'm supposed to rename the .mll to EX' mame32ui.mll and check the emulators tab it should work. But it doesn't so I must be doing something wrong.

  Any clues?

Ok the tutorial here .....

http://malafe.net/index.php?page=docshelp

That I can use the second option in gui or the first. The first would not work so I did with list but it prints the list to all games for all emus

It's also got an annoying habit of putting the standard photos in my from the mala/standards folder and putting those files in my layouts folders. I keep deleting them but they just show right back up.

Every time I go to add another layout in gui it deletes the previous layout

Ok just renamed all the .mll files in each layout folder to " emulatorname " then changed the folders names to the .mll file name then opened up mala hit he gui tab checked the layout files (excluding the .mll) are located in a folder the name of the layout and still no luck. I've also experimented with the emulator and emulators game list boxes with the layout files function

Ok just renamed all the .mll files in each layout folder to " emulatorname "
All the mll files need to be in the same folder in order for Mala to find them.
IIRC, the layout editor kept saving them in a place other than where I needed them and i had to manually move them.

Ok put all the .mll files in one folder. When renaming .mll files so far i have to use the "emulator_allgames" command when naming. Thats fine but it shows all the games period. Is there a way to do this where it shows Just the games for that emulator?

Ok i have moved the layout .mll files and thier artwork files to one folder on my desktop called layout. Then opened up mala and clicked in gui and openend the the folder. They all show up in the box. They are all named after thier emu.exe file. At this point i have to choose "a" layout.

If i check the emulator box they all go gray. If i check gamelist they stay gray. If i uncheck emulator at this point gamelist goes gray. But no matter what i do i can only get one layout at a time.

You should just have the emulator box under Auto layout switch checked and nothing else.
At that point mala will use the emulator name and the layout folder you specified above to find the correct layout.
You do not need to select any layout.

I'm pretty sure the instructions say that the artwork should be located in a folder with the same name as the layout (which is also the same name you wrote in Mala for the emulator).  It doesn't have to be the exe name.

I have tried that and done the layout folders several different ways. The way you mentioned just grays the layouts box and when I click ok it gives me the standards theme throughout. I've also tried all this with the folders done in several different ways.

But I was able to make a tree which works in the same way and looks nice but I can't seem to figure out how to add my game snaps. Do you anything about the mala tree?

Works real nice and looks good i have a mala layout and and a layout for each emu and i can switch.

But i cant figure out how to add the mp3 music feature. It wants an emulator but its mala itself that plays the files

I just downloaded juke8 and set that up as my music emulator then added to the tree.

Here's how I have it set up

Mala open screen = phantasy
       mame
             Game list
       N64
              Game list
Etc

Each emulator has its own theme

Having trouble with an .mll file. I would like to use the mala tron layout but he picture is so huge it stretches beyond the screen. I've tried to open it up and change the size to he size of my other layout pngs but that has no effect. Any clues as to why?

Ok I double checked what you said except I changed all the file names to the emulator names, just so I know what goes to what, I then put all the .mll files into one folder with sub folders named after the .mll file and Its matching artwork which has been named after the last two files and still no luck.

Maybe this will help diagnose the problem. Still no matter what I do when I click the emulator box the list of layouts go gray. When I exit after this the screen just go black for each emulator. The emu/games list are still in the right place according to the layout just no background or the standard background I can't seem to delete.

Is there a way to reset the snaps in mala. Ive added spme games and while the games show up on the list the new snaps refuse to show. I have checked and rechecked the names of the game and the art work but still not showing up.

Nothing needs to be reset.  Mala shows the snaps on the fly.  You can add new ones at any time.

They either don't match the file name of the rom exactly or Mala doesn't like the format they are saved as.
Try opening them in MS paint and saving them as a different image type.

I can try that. Just added some more buttons so i can play newer games.

I also made a jukebox layout. It was pretty simple. I just grabbed the background from my AJ8 juke box app. I used the atari .mll file then deleted its pic and renamed the mll juke box and added the background i wanted and changed its name. After that all i had to do was edit it so everything looked right.
