Dreamcast Emulation HELP
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:32:26 pm »
I recently decided to give Chankcast another go and see ifI could play some SpaceChannel5. After downloading the virtual Daemon tools and setting it up. Chankast STILL would not play it.  So for poops and giggles when i was mounting the SpaceChannel in the Daemon Tool, I thought I might open it with windows media player ( after a box prompted me) and guess what, windows media player played what looked like the intro movie.  i have also tried NullDc and with the same results, Spacechannel 5 appears as a CD both Dreamcast emulators.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  space Channel 5 is a .cdi file in case that helps.

First of all, Chankast is basically dead.  Continue to use NullDC.  Also, you don't need to virtually mount .cdi files with NullDC.

Secondly, in NullDC have you changed the plugin to read games?  I believe it looks for .gdi files by default, but you should be able to choose a different plugin.  I believe Image reader plugin is what you are looking for.  You should be able to load .cdi rips after that.

Bear with me, as I'm at work at typing this from memory.  I futz around with NullDC and Demul too much and sometimes I confuse the two of them.

Edit:  I also assume that you have a valid Dreamcast Bios to use?

Yes I have all of that set up and it still shows it as a CD.  I don't have any other plugins running. i also erased my old NullDc and all its config, including bios to see if i messed up something, still no luck. I am at a complete loss here.  Your time and effort is much appreciated.

If you're using NullDC, have selected the image reader plugin, and you're pointing it to a .cdi file, then the only problem is with the .cdi image.  It sounds like you don't have  a self-booting rip.  If that's the case, the dreamcast will just boot up to the gd-rom load screen.

Give Makaron a try. It runs MVC2 better than NullDC. It did on my machine at least.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

I figured out the problem, my .CDI was shady and did not work.

Can you help me. Do you know where I can get the .cdi for Space Channel 5? I've been having the same problem. The .cdi never actually loads the game. :hissy:

Welcome aboard, kumo5656.   ;D

Unfortunately, we can't help you with this particular question but hopefully you can locate a working copy.

Please see Rule #5 here.

I have tried several times to get any  Dreamcast emulator to work, to no benefit.  I have the complete set of DC games 191gb and HAD to move them back on to physical media at 1x no less  :hissy:

Luckily Ritek discs are still available for pennies (100 stack for $5) and had to burn every game back to play on the hardware.  I mean the DreamCast is $30 to buy and I did snag a VGA connector from my local goodwill store so I can play Soul Calibur in full 640x480.   :woot

I also found on clearance a slide out tray that fits the DC perfectly and will install in my cab through the coin door.

It took me 5 minutes to find the DC archives so you will have to look.

It is against the rules to ask for roms/disks etc.   :bat

Space Channel 5 was 1.00 at my local pawn shop just recently, and the game totally sucks btw.   :lol
