Jatre Specter
« on: December 06, 2014, 12:46:39 am »
Well, I was out at a second hand shop with a friend this last week, and I spotted this small cocktail cab labeled "Jatre Specter" with some Asian stickers on it. looks cool. No price was on it, and it had been sitting a wile based on the cobwebs on it. Even if it didn't work I think it may have potential as a shell for a 60in1 conversion or something like that. The Cab is in good shape for a 35ish year old electronic. I could lift the top up and see that most (if not all) the parts were there. No keys for the coin door or the game board access panel so I could not get a real good look  :(

Quick Phone search told me this was a Space invaders clone. I asked the owner the price he said 50 dollars for the pair. Wait what Pair? yes he had another in the back he was using as a table. I went to take a look, that cab was in relatively better shape (chrome less pitted). I asked if they worked, sadly no, but one does power up and the monitor lights up. The other ones power supply sees to be dead. But both seem to have all the parts (working or not)

What the hell... I went ahead and grabbed them. Between the two I, some elbow grease, and maybe some replacement parts I will take the parts from them both to make one working cab.

Below are some crappy cell pics, as I get into it I will past more.

It may be a month or so before I can start, with the holidays' and all, plus I need to renew a couple a technical certifications by February (curse you real life stuff......)

This being an older system, is that a 4:3 monitor? I seem more rectangle than that to the eye.

My locksmiths skills apparently suck, Going to have to drill a couple of locks.....

Below is a couple of pics through the small opening at the top, I don't see any obvious flaws (dusty as all get out)......

Nice pick up. Will be watching to see how this goes. As far as 4:3, I would assume so. Don't think there was really anything else bitd.

I have not done much; i did drill the locks on the non-working cab. Proud to say the project now has only cost me $49.75 as there was a quarter in the coin box.

No obvious defects seen anywhere, no blown fuses, no burn marks anywhere. There is some loss of the green coating over the copper near the connector, but I don't think that would break the board.

I have learned that drilling the "round" locks that are hardened steel are a ---smurfette--- without a impact drill, and don't drill at full speed, I broke a cobalt drill bit  :(

My next step is to pick up a volt meter and see where the power stop in this one.

I tried to PM you but couldn't. Hopefully you see this. I also have a Jatre Spectre! I'm actually working on a set of reproduction labels for mine since the arcade operator who owned the machine before me pasted their own "artwork" all over the originals. I was wondering if you could take some good pictures or maybe take some scans of the labels for me? I would like to reproduce these and make them freely available to anyone looking to restore one of these machines.

I use Adobe Illustrator to recreate the labels exactly using vectors. I've already reproduced an orange and green set but I haven't been able to find good scans/reference photos of the blue and brown labels like your units have. If you have any questions please feel free to message me.

Here is a .PDF file of the first completed set of labels I reproduced. The scans were provided to me by Jason Eckert.

I'll see what I can do, one of mine had been desecrated with artwork like that too. I am hip deep is studying for the VMware  VCAP-DCD (on the 29th) so my free time right now is there.

Thanks for sharing the PDF, Is there a specific image that you are interested in?

There's no rush at all, once you have some free time just let me know. I'm interested in all the labels on the first unit you have pictured. They look like they are in good shape. So I would like pictures of the "Jatre spectre" label, the "insert coin" label and the instructions.

When you get around to taking the photos, please follow these criteria. It will ensure the final result is as accurate as possible to the originals.

1. Remove the top glass to eliminate glare and distortion.

2. Don't use the flash on the camera.

3. Be sure you have adequate lighting. But try your best to keep it neutral so it doesn't affect the colour.

4. Try your best to take the photo from directly above the label. Doesn't have to be 100% but just try your best.

5. And finally, please provide height and width measurements of each label so I can scale them properly. Doesn't matter if you use imperial or metric units.

I really appreciate your help with this. I haven't been able to find decent pictures of those labels yet. I'll provide a finished PDF with all the labels once I'm done.

I have a revision C PCB for this game and since it does not work and there is NO documentation anywhere i am creating a set of schematics for it.
I do need some help though. I need the ICs at locations G1, G3, M7 and M8. It seems that they rev B board and the REV C boards are fairly close.
The REV C board does not seem to have the daughter board populated Not sure what the board is supposed to do. Once the schematics are completed I will repair my game board and can repair others boards if need be.

I also need the part values located at C12, C60, C65, C96, R153, C32, R28, D15, R96 and the value of the crystal which i believe is 4 mhz.

If you don't mind i would sure appreciate some help as noted above.
