golden tee 2016

Hello everyone, I am new to this board, I  have read a few theads, and I am amazed how knowledgeable everyone is on here.
Right now I own a 2012 gt live, and looking for the least expensive way to upgrade it to the current 2016.

A friend of mine just bought a 2016 update, it only came with a hard drive and a 8 pin ic for the i/o board.
Well it has me thinking, I can make an image of the hd, but has anyone ever copied the 8 pin ic?

not happening.

the 8 pin dip is a security chip. they are pre-programmed and bit locked...they may even be destructive locked where if you try to dump the data out, it wipes the chip.

the ONLY way to upgrade is to call IT and tell them what version you have and they will supply you a chip and USB thumb drive that will update the software on the drive to the new version.

there is no "cheap" way to do it because IT holds all the cards in this system. it was done this way intentionally so you have to buy product from them.

this is also why they don't supply re-installation disks...they'd rather you bought an over priced pre-loaded hard drive from them.

Shipping something from the U.S. to Canada for repair/exchange?  Please use USPS to avoid (additional?/excessive?) shipping charges.  PM me if you have any questions.

this is okay because they inserted the older board drivers into the OS in the newer versions.

it gets a little interesting to try and use newer hardware in older games because the drivers aren't in the OS until specific versions. for instance...video cards:

http://amusement.itsgames.com/downloads/instructions/Video%20Card%20Compatibility.pdf

you have to have specific versions of certain years in order to be able to use a replacement videocard. i've had to do the video card shuffle to fix an older 2010 with a failed 9500GT by getting a new card and swap, swap, swap the new 740 from a 2013 with a 640 from a 2012 to get a 430 that would work with 2010.
