Wells Gardner K7000a (Zenith) dead
« on: December 09, 2015, 02:59:52 am »
Hi,

I have a WG K7000a Zenith built 19" CRT which has been working for over two years in a mame cab via j-pac.  when i switch on the cab now the monitor is dead, no neck glow.  I am aware that the flyback is very rare and i am unlikely to find a replacement (I am in the UK) after doing some research into this model. I have checked the fuses on the input and on the chassis and checked the input AC form the isolation transformer.
I have ordered a cap kit, HOT and voltage regulator as they are relatively cheap and i am going to re-flow any dry solder joints that i find.  Does anybody have any advice in the order in which i should fit the new parts?  any general advice on working on these old CRT's?  I would also like to have a backup plan of replacing the chassis for a more readily available K7000 chassis if i am unable to repair it.  Does anybody have a replacement K7000 chassis for a 19" CRT (9+1 art pins) for sale?  Happy to pay the import if not UK sourced?

Thanks for listening
Regards
Darren

Do you have any sign of life i.e. on startup or clicking noise after startup or any other soft noise or is it completely dead?

If you find that you are unable to repair it I've been told that the K7000a and K7000 are interchangeable.  K7000 chassis are pretty common so you could just swap the chassis out if the tube is still in good shape.

there are no signs of life at all.  no sounds or screen activity.  I would like to attempt a repair (cap kit, replace HOT and VR, reflow solder joints) as they are relatively cheap and easy but if it turns out to be the flyback i guess I should go for a chassis swap for a K7000 as you suggest.  Any ideas how much a reconditioned K7000 chassis goes for these days?  does anybody stock these or have one they would be willing to sell?

Should be able to get one under $100 us. Check eBay. They also pop up on KLOV a lot.

Thank you all for the advice.  I will keep an eye on greedbay.  I have many original game pcb's that i may be willing to trade if somebody is interested? http://www.arcade-museum.com/members/member_detail.php?member_id=381383
