Junker Pac Bartop
« on: June 23, 2016, 10:12:44 am »
Hello All,

This post is partially to re-familiarize myself with the board (long time lurker, had an account back in the early 2000's which is now owned by the ghost of my old earthlink e-mail address), and make sure I still get pictures correct etc.

Anyway, one day I was bored, there was scrap wood, I had an old RPI model B, and a bunch of extra arcade parts from a hobby that was put on the back burner for decades. Fortunately the rain had finally stopped (anyone in NC knows it's been crazy the past year and a half to have a weekend without some rain), so I could actually work in the driveway since my garage and workshop were packed to the gills with old arcade restoration projects.

I'm still working on the final marquee, and side-art, but here's a quick shot of the nearly finished project:

And here's one back when it was bare wood:

I've a handful of other photos from when I was poking around putting this together, if anyone is interested I'll add them.

Components:
Spare lumber, hardware (screws, paint, etc.)
Raspberry Pi model B (original)
Some el-cheapo 10.1" LCD panel w/HDMI input from Amazon (the vendors seem to come and go, the 10.1" $70 screens seem to be always available however)
J-Stick * some Happ buttons
A cracked open and mounted set of el-cheapo PC speakers w/power supply.
A spare power strip
NOS Ms.Pac cocktail CPO
Currently running Retropie, but I've had piplay on it as well.

Things I'd have done differently if I was planning this:
Power switch
Panel mount RJ45 network port & USB port on the back (instead of dangling cord ends)
I'd probably forgo the CPO and use something more generic with a "better" joystick/button layout - but this is great for the basics.

That's quite the angle there on the control panel.

It sure is.

Works well enough if you're sitting down in front of it with it on a table, but it's not for a stander. When (if) I get around to making another I'd certainly do more than use the odd pairs of matching cut off triangles as my mounting points :)

Being that it truly was assembled from junker wood to test out old & replacement tools & bit, I've considered scrapping it a few times already, but as you'll see from my other posts I've got far more arcade projects than time, so.... maybe... someday. For now the 3yr old digs it.

In the end, that's all that matters, brother!
