Is anyone here cutting pieces for dioramas to be used in wargaming such as Warhammer 40K?

Or those paint trays?

I can post pics if don't know what I am getting at.

I'll find a better example of the paint tray.

What do I need to know to know what is involved in picking the appropriate machine to accomplish this?

Well, money, for one.  Lots of money.  You can get a laser etcher for a few hundred bucks.  But a cutter with enough juice to cut 1/4" wood or acrylic is gonna be a couple grand.

Yeah cnc and/or 3d printers are a better match for such a project.  Unless you insist on burnt wood that is.  (Never have understood why laser cutters have caught on.... they do on purpose what I would consider a mistake if I did it.... scorch the wood during cutting)

that picture has a LOT of 40k in it.

I have a fairly large SM army down in storage, but that is just a sick amount of GW and fordgeworld product.

I just happen to see it on imgur while looking for an example of a paint tray.

The best were these old Games Workshop paint trays. I still have one. They're made from MDF, and flat packed. Look like they were made on a CnC router.  Add a gloss floor tile and a plastic cup and you've got the best movable station there is.

Well, laser cutters work great for acrylics... Wood not so much

Hey, I'm not sure exactly how to ask...but I'd like to get a couple pieces cut (I guess precision cut?), like a control panel with holes, but cut in various materials such as plexi, mdf, sheet metal, wood.

I'm not sure if these should all be the same cutting technique, or how to go about seeking a vendor.  I would need the cuts to be accurate and clean, and repeatable later if needed.

Any idea what type of shop to seek locally, and/or is there a BYOACer that could help?

I could do all of these...  minus the sheet metal.  Well, I can do aluminum at 1/8" thick or less, but definitely no ferrous metals.
