vert collapse after cap kit k4500
« on: February 22, 2016, 02:09:53 pm »
So did a cap in this 4500 for a bud (screen had few issues) but wasn’t collapsed
did cap one to one as I never touched a 4500 all values matched and swapped out
reflowed pins on cards and card pins on main board
rigged a broken coil  working (adjustment makes the Horz. line wider or smaller)

after cap kit and I had vertical collapse I pulled trans from board checked them all with multi meter seemed fine but sine I have some I replaced the tr305/a940 and the tr304/c2073..  Don’t have a tr352/c2242 but seemed ok reading wise and is Horz. section of board.

Rechecked orientation and reflowed all caps just in case ... checked all for continuity all fine.

Next going to check resistors etc. in vert. section and pot......  Unless someone has another idea to check?

!!!! and I only get the picture with vert collapse with switch on service ..normal mode blank screen!!!!!
Don’t think I like k4500s they going up there with vectors at this rate lol

(EDIT looks as if the trans at tr354/c1740 is bad in protection section has no reading from emitter only collector and ... I dont have one! lol)
(replaced the c1740 ......now i get nothing lol and tr304 getting burning hot........

just be warned, a transistor can SEEM okay... and test okay...but fail once under load or at high voltage.

yeah but wanted to check if shorted.  replaced 2 med size trans as i had them in stock ....
seemed this monitor didnt like the new cap kit lol ... 1st k4500 I have done many k4600.  1st time i had monitor just crap sht on me after a cap.

like stated before cap had issues colors waves etc.
after cap kit screen went poof to horz line that i could see game colors and moving etc . (only in service mode)
the coil i repaired makes horz line grown and shrink so figured isnt the issue.
tested every trans on daughter board put all back together.... NOW NOTHING service or reg mode
have neck glow but no screen at all.

took pics just in case screening is wrong every trans is in its place and correct.

but no screen and could smell something getting hot turned off pulled daughter board and burnt the crap out my finger on the 304/c2073 trans was realllllly hot.

guess im back to square one on monitor trouble shooting lol ..... I see there is no replacement flybacks aval least i have yet to find one in case needed .

checking the large trans on frame make sure they are not shorted
actually this dang monitor has me so scatter brained its not funny need to remember the old days before I  thought i knew anything lol.

a horizontal line means the high voltage and the HOT are good. no vertical deflection is occuring.

double check the vertical control pot. sometimes when changing caps they can get busted.

but basically check everything here:

Will do but now i dont even have a horz line .. is why I was checking see why I lost high voltage .. the domino effect eludes me but tis old.

Is your raster switch on the chassis turned on or stuck or non functional? That will look like collapse

I just acquired a Galaxians cabinet that had the same issue with the service switch.  When playing with it, I would sometimes get an image.  There was a single white wire running from the switch to a board.  Once I traced the cable, I unplugged it.  This corrected the collapse issue for me.
