Burgertime not saving high scores with soft reset
« on: March 07, 2015, 01:09:03 pm »
My awesome score did not save! After some research I tried adding the hiscore.dat file and that worked until i hit soft reset. The scores got wiped out.
So I guess I won't be using the soft reset?
Is this supposed to happen.  First I thought my version of mame did not support hiscore.dat because i see  it was added to the .159 version and i have .155 of mameuifx64
So this confuses me.  It seems to be working...

How awesome was your score? If you break 1 mil it doesn't save it.
Also, why hit soft reset? Do you just mean you exited the game and launched it again?

not 1 million!  But I beat my high. I went through all 6 levels and then back to the 3rd again but realized i had it on the 5 lives switch...i suppose that's cheating..i don't know...
i figured a soft reset is good to have just like you would do on the nes or sega.
But I really don't need it for Mame I suppose..it's just quicker than exiting back to Maximus and then going through the CP wizard again.

Regular reset doesn't erase the scores...something about the soft reset ..i don't know what it is...is that like pulling the plug on it?

1,000,036,000 is my high but... I had the extra life at 10,000 instead of the 20,000. After fixing that I don't get quite so high.
Were you resetting to start over during a bad run? It's never dawned on me to do that, I just kill myself off by walking at the enemies.

I got distracted. damn wife. 1 million is a ton! i got 80,000.  I guess I'm not shooting for points when I play..just trying to clear as many boards as possible.
I watched the video on that trick where you bunch them up and I try to do it on the first level but that's it.  I prefer being chased by all of them..adds to the fun of it.
I set it at 6 enemies now...I am peppers a blazin' all over.

That's a whole different game, sounds stressful, but probably easier to fit into a quick game. My top score game took an hour and a half.

That's normal. highscore is read and write upon entering and exiting game. When you reset game between you get default mame env. without highscore added. After you quit mame will save what has right now in memory.

Hey, a real answer to the original question. Thanks, that's good to know.
