Marquee that I created for my new Wii driven EMU. Opinions?
« on: August 21, 2015, 02:41:49 pm »
So I wanted something that was VERY Nintendo but also something reflective of the emulators as well.  It gets very busy, very quickly when you start adding characters to it, but I like what I came up with and how it turned out.

It will be printed on plain paper on a laser copier and pieced together.  I am looking for input, specifically about the use of white as a background.  I don't like that you can see the paper fibers with a backlight, but I don't really have another option unless I have someone print it for me.

Anyway, let me have it, good, bad & ugly.  Hopefully some of you like my work.  And yes, I stole it all off the interwebs.

You are going to get a lot of helpful feedback here so I don't need to tell you everything. I'll let everyone else give the bulk of the feedback. I just have 3 comments:

1. If you are set on using that many characters, at least don't have them covering up so much of the "Nintendo". You can hardly read it.
2. I'd have one of the good printing guys here do the printing for you. BYOAC member stpcore does translite prints. And member lucian045 does regular prints. I've used them both. Both are very good with good prices.
3. I don't think it is necessary to have every system type listed. I'd simplify the entire thing so that it looks less busy.

Does the rest of your arcade have a more specific theme that you can continue through your marquee?

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm just getting started on it this week.  I'm totally new to owning an arcade cabinet.  As for the side art, I thought about doing a giant Bowser on one side and maybe a giant Dr. Wily(from Megaman) on the other.  I've thought about doing a very minimalist Wii theme all over.  The Cab is currently black with red trim(see below).

I'm just not sure yet.  I'm trying to get a clear vision of what I want it to look like.  I'll probably go through some variations with the marquee and see which one I really like and then have one of the guys here print it for me.

If you have not already done so, I'd start a project thread on this.

Also, curious what is going on here? Are those slots cut on both sides of the cab to allow the monitor width?

I did start a project thread on this with no feedback.  Link: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,146925.0.html

Yes, so I had a 32" LCD TV that was just collecting dust.  After removing the plastic bezel, the screen still lacked about 1" fitting. I tried carving it out from the inside with a chisel(resistance was futile).  So I decided to just cut the slots and fill them back in once everything is put together.  The sides will be solid when I am done, so the slots are not permanent.  The TV will be in it's own little "groove" inside the cab.

I redid the marquee with your feedback taken into account.  Is this any better?

To be fair, your initial project thread post only had one question in it:  "Does anyone know if the marquee lamp on these units is AC or DC?"

You can't get artwork feedback or really any feedback on that question! :)

Yes, your new artwork is better but IMO it still doesn't need any characters.

Why not a simple Nintendo logo. Red on black. Like this:  (It would naturally fit with your black and red trimmed cab)

Hi pcguysam!

I like your initial design as well! Are you willing to share it in a larger version or as a vector file with the audience?
Thank you!
