Look under the bed. ;D

Put these words on the back of your bedroom door: Did I back up my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- today?
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

+1.  I always backed up my files.  Until the one time I didnt and lost my wedding photos.  Luckily my wife had all the digital copies on facebook.  It doesnt hurt to buy a cheaper hard drive with the same amount of space of your files.  Or invest in a WD passport type device and partition for all your computers.  You can always reinstall an OS or program but certain files like pics, music, videos not so much.

Its funny you bring this up Eric.  On a semi related topic I put in a bunch of information into a spreadsheet over the course of the day today.  It took about ten hours working on and off on it.  One of the guys who had access to it saved over all of my work and now I have to go back in about 5 minutes and rework the damn thing.  And Im the one who will look like an idiot because he saved over it.  Point I am making is assume nothing you create on a computer is safe.

No shadow copies on the shared folder? Sounds like your system admin is asleep on the job.

I was able to get it to mount and move some stuff I wanted from it.  I think I'll make it out of this.  Turns out the pics are were on another drive in a separate PC.

I also think I have a bad SATA cable.

GE,

If you still have that drive I can recommened a program that I have used many time to get a drive back and usally most data. Call SpinRite by a company call Gibson Research Comp. cost about $100 but worth every penny when you have data you need. Look them up at CRG dot COM.

Hope this post is ok.

Malenko - We have A LOT of files and large CAD files and dont have the room.  I learned my lesson yesterday and made a backup on my computers hard drive.

yeah but then you just have 2 shares, one for the large cad files and one for everything else :)  Good idea to keep a local copy though.

Its a good idea but the moron that messed it up yesterday also has to 'work' on it.  So then if I have a shadow copy I would have to put his input into it daily thus making my life harder.  Either way I'm screwed.  I may just talk to him today and tell him I'll do what he puts into it and make my life 10x easier.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Eric.  It felt good to ---smurfette--- about the idiots I work with.
