Hi all, having tried to do my research in this forum, I'm getting myself confused with the various opinions. I'm about to embark on my first cab build, using
http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/model.pdf as my initial plans. The goal is to run mame and a few console emulators in a hyper spin setup (snes, mega drive, neo geo?). I'm not interested in authentic looks, so I want to go down the IPS LCD route. This is also due to my lack of electronics expertise.
From what I can determine in the research I've done, most opinions are headed towards. 4:3 screen. I'm wondering though what issues I'm going to run into if I opt to got for a larger screen, something like a 24-27"? I'll then be adjusting my plans accordingly to fit it in

If I do go for larger, should I be buying a 16:10, or is 16:9 ok? I understand that I'll probably have to use the bezel to frame the picture. I think though that I'd rather frame the whole monitor with the bezel and if the game allows for it to be stretched ok, do that, else run it in whatever resolution I can get it to ru in. Let me know if this is going to cause more issues then it solves.
As I've said, authenticity isn't high on my agenda, so I'll be using whatever is needed to get the games working (HLST I believe is the popular choice)
I also have a question around how LCDs work in a cab in regards to turning on. Do they go from no power to on without needing to push the power button, or is there some creative electronics I need to learn to get it to work this way? Do most people leave the screens on in a standby mode or something?
Thanks in advance.
