I'm a bit confussed on how to get this frontend going.  I'm not sure on to compile or not to and exactly what to do with the binary/source files or the roms and such.  A simple explanation on set up would be appreciated.  Thanks

oh man, it's going to take more than a simple explanation  :o

mameanalog+ is not a front end.  It is a special version of mame that has enhancements.  If you have special changes that you use with mame (i.e. you already compile your own version), go ahead and compile your own and include the analog+ changes or just use the binary (a.k.a.  EXE file) and forget the source code.

good luck,

Rocky

Like Rocky says. ;)

Anything in peticular you need help on?
If it's the just the basic how to run mame, lots of info on using that at http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/ and the mame.net FAQ.  Most of that applies to Analog+, too; The Analog+ binary is much like the official command line mame you download from mame.net.

MameAnalog+ comes with a few extra features, though.  Check out the features page for most of them.  Ask if you have any question about them.

If you run winXP and want multiple mice, download the mameAnalog+ XP binary.  All other windows versions should get the normal analog+ version.

I'm not exactly sure what to do with the binary file.  I put it into my mame32 folder where I have all my roms and everything else and was able to run it from a DOS window in Win98, but I'm unsure of how to make it do what I need.  Will I always have to run it from a command line or can it be intergrated into a GUI frontend?  I am trying to get 1, spinner, and 2 optical joysticks to work with a USB optipac.  I believe I can get the spinner and player 1 joystick which have to be wired into the player 1 slots to both be horizontal moving devices even with one wired into the vertical slots using analog+ and I ahould be able to get the player 2 joystick to work similtaniously in games such as Heavy Barrel as well.  I'm just not finding the instructions for how this is done.  Could you point me in the right direction?  Thanks

You can't just drop the mameanalog .exe into the mame32 folder...

You have to use mameanalog in conjunction with another front end, such as mamewah, advancemenu, emuloader, etc...

Analog mame does not include the GUI ala mame32.

For a list of frontends, check out the list on the left side of www.mameworld.net. There's a ton of them there. Everybody has their personal favorites based on look, function and ease of setup. (I personally use it along with advancemenu in my cocktail cab.)

Any one that works with the mame windows binary will work with analog mame (to the best of my knowledge.)

And make sure to -cc to get a new config file. You can't just use the one from other versions, ie:mame32... ;)

...wow, I'm totally lost. I posted this question (at the top of this forum's list....and I feel like a dolt as I'm having trouble following these suggestions.....

My bottom line question...(for which I think I know the answer) is: can I use Mame Analogue with Mame32 to enable the gun reload function in Area 51? and if so, how?

I'm sorry to be playing dumb here as I've figured out a ton of stuff on my own through trial and error....but I know this is a common problem......

any suggestions??? (other then don't play Area 51!)  ???

No you can't.

Analog mame is a replacement for mame.   It has some extra features that mame doesn't.

next.

Mame32 is a replacement for mame.  It has a graphic frontend built in with mame.

If you want to use analog mame, you will either need to run it from a command line or find a frontend that works with it (many good ones out there).

And I have to say... You might have to change your signature... MameMaster and running Mame32 do not go together  ;D

I'll give Analogue Mame a try.

Thanks again!

MAMEanalog+ is awesome. If it wasn't for that I would've never built a cab!

I use the 69.1 Mame32 analog+ build from Rebel's site. I get dual guns and the reload works in most the games that use it save for one or two. Area51/Mx definitely works for me with that build.

BTW Robin any chance of you doing up another MAME32 build? I'd definitely like to see one if you ever get the controls save bug fixed!

I might see if I can get one when 0.78 comes out.  However, there are a couple other things in the works ATM, and of course this is the start of the holidays.  That means either I'll have lots more time than usual (better chance I can do a mame32) or, more likely, I'll be too busy with friends, family, etc to do much at all.  Then again, if 0.78 comes after the first, [shrug], I'll have to see.

And thanks for the compliment. :D
