Seeking advice on final artwork...
« on: May 26, 2014, 10:10:49 am »
Firstly, apologies as I feel I've posted bits about this everywhere. Thought I'd come to the specific artwork forum for some expert advice!

So, having listened to various feedback over previous attempts (see http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,132749.0.html) trying to finish this off.

This is starting to feel better. I started with bitmap drafts which felt OK. However, I also wanted artwork vectored as a tip of the cap to original arcade artwork. Problem being, I'm trying to vector airbrushed artwork, and of course it doesn't handle gradings well!

Original bitmap is the first. Vectored version the second and vectored with a xenomorph overlay the third (which hides the main problems area - the white "egg silo" on the left):

What do you think? I would have preferred the one without the xeno, but that grading on the "egg" i think just looks too bad. Therefore I'm leaning towards including the xeno. Also - any comments on placement etc?

Lastly, redesigned Marquee:

Would welcome any thoughts. I'm desperate to get this artwork bit finished... it feels like ti should be pleasurable!

Thanks folks.

Just did 96 colour passes on the egg bitmap. Looks a bit better, but still not sure about leaving the xenomorph on.

Wow... Inkscape's running slow! :)

Gonna have a bunch of marquees done, too - same price for 9 as it is for 1 @ printers I'm using. Here's what I've knocked together:

Btw - so where are all the hi-res or vector Marquee artworks hiding?

That Tempest one is gorgeous!  They're all gorgeous, but that one really pulls me in.

First let me say...

Secondly... where are you having your printing done?

Ah... UK based printer. nuts...

One thing I didn't notice before was all the company logos on your marquee. I'd drop those personally. I think it would give it a much cleaner look.

OK... wow the artwork bit is hard.

Thought the xenomorph stood out a bit. So used some filters on the fully vectorised artwork (that feels naughty - but can export the filter results @ high ppi)

Let me know what you think (the only thing is guessing how brown it's gonna look when finally printed... looks dark on my monitor, until you stand up!)
