Newest acquisition- Craigslist comes through for once
« on: July 05, 2014, 07:58:36 pm »
OK, so I see a nonworking Centipede in my area on CL posted over at KLOV. I email the guy knowing full well that I will never hear back (Chicago area is crazy competitive, with all the collectors and flippers). Well, was happy to be wrong, drove 10 minutes, gave the guy $200, killed my back getting it up 20 stairs, and brought the cab home.

So I tape down the security switches for the coin door and back door and yep, it works 100%. (I figured that was the issue since the seller said it just stopped powering up altogether.) Rich guy, sold it out of his game room, didn't want to mess with it and sold it nonworking. Beautiful original clean board, new-ish 2003 monitor with no burn in. A few cosmetic issues but nothing i am going to fix. My first truly dedicated cab and my first non-project cab.

Was originally (when I figured the innards were fried) going to use it for a 60-in-1 for family but now I'm in love.  >:D

Only bad part is I'm away from home for a couple weeks starting tomorrow and have to leave it behind.  :-\

That is totally kick ass, good score!  Even better than my score last week.  37" LCD that "didn't work" for free.  Picked it up as an electronics project with the kiddo.  Plugged it in, no good, swapped cords, good as new!

In NW Indiana? Yeah, from my brief interaction with the guy I think it was dumb luck that I made the deal, the seller seemed pretty scattered. I think he was considering offers from at least one other person (probably the first to respond), was tired of waiting, and I happened to be there at the right time with the money in hand. The only reason I can think that it hadn't been snapped up already. Now if I could only score a pinball cheap locally... aw, who am I kidding?

So glad I'm not dealing with Craigslist anymore. I've got all the games I want.

For a while, the best method I had was an app which monitored craigslist for certain words. All was well and good till Arcade Fire came to town.
