I didn't want it that thin - it's just that I've bought Seimitsu sticks with an SS plate, and in order to make room for the microswitch contacts I had to route a bit underneath as well. There seemed to be no other way. The amount I ended up routing may have been too much though.
I've read that coating the wood in wood glue helps reinforce it - either way, I'm going to leave it and see how it lasts. I can always redo it if it's a disaster. I don't find routing that fun so I want to avoid having to do it all again if I can help it...
