What hinge (?) do I want?
« on: April 19, 2014, 09:35:49 am »
I intend for a section of the back panel of my cabinet to fold out on a normal set of hinges a certain distance so that I can access the computer components, which will be attached to it. I guess sort of like how an oven door opens a certain way when you fold it down.

Obviously I need some standard hinges at the bottom - but what is the name of the type of part I need to install where the corner of the fold would be so that it only goes the certain distance?

(Does any of this make sense to ANYone??)

You could either use hinges designed to lock at 90 degrees.  Or if using regular hinges, just install something like lever arms or chains to keep the access panel from folding down beyond 90 degrees.

The latter would be better if you are attaching your PC components to the panel, since they would better support the weight.

A chain I guess is along the right lines as it would stop it from opening too far, but I don't so much like the idea of the cahin rattling or hanging there - needs to be something more rigid.

It will probably be something from this list:

But it would have to take some good weight...
