Xbox1 Dual Voltage Dilemma
« on: March 03, 2014, 06:39:57 am »
I have two modded UK Xbox1s and I thought I would be clever and buy a US Xbox1 and swap out the PSU.  Well after locating one in a Goodwill which was doing the Christmas Tree, I cracked her open to find I had a 1.0 and the UK is 1.4.

Now my options:

Use the 1.0 PSU and find an ATX connector and hard wire it.

Buy another Xbox1 and hope it is compatible with the 1.4

Buy another Xbox1 and migrate the hard mod (solderless) to another.

Buy a step up transformer.

What's your favourite out of those?

I'm assuming your in England/Europe. have you checked eBay for a specific psu for your region? and if your able to get a new psu on eBay or the web you can grab another one for the US Xbox so you could run it w/o a power converter.
Final Burn Legend: the best Xbox emulator!! (yes.... I'm biased :))

No they are 220v so its the other way around.  Stepdown is easy,  stepup i'm not completely sure.  Swapping the psu was to be a simple fix,  as transferring everything on the 400gb drive is going to be a PITA.

Has anyone used a step up converter?

well, if you live in the USA then, most homes are actually wired for 208-230/240 volts single phase. most electric dryers use this voltage set up.

of course the wall plugs at home are 110-120 volts.

it's too bad we don't use 208/230-240 volts in our homes here. more voltage means less amps.

you could look up a step up transformer 120 to 208/230 volts. those may not come with the wall plug and socket but splicing those in ain't hard at all.

other specific Xbox sites might be good way to go. too bad xs has gone to nothing. the emuXtras site might be a way to check as the guys there tend to have xboxes galore. xbmc4xbox is another.

I picked up another Xbox at my local thrift store for 15 bucks, with two controllers and game.  Worked perfectly, but another 1.1 :( so I tried installing the xecuter mod via the solderless adapter.  That was fun, as the pal units has no solder in the socket header.  After 30 minutes of fiddling, got it to work.  Now I have to reformat and stick everything back on the TB drive, which I'm sure I can overwrite the files from the 1.1 into C partition leaving F and G alone.

FYI the step up power converters you see on amazon do not balance the incoming frequency so 120v 60 equates to 240 60 which will burn out the Xbox psu.

It was the cheapest option and I have spares for a couple of years at least.   ;D

Edit:  I just plopped in the old TB drive for a laugh, and luckily for me it was unlocked and worked perfectly.  That should save me a bit of time.  :applaud:
