Other uses for a 23" All-in-One Touchscreen PC
« on: December 25, 2013, 10:26:18 pm »
Getting an all in one touchscreen PC for a jukebox project.
Wondering what else I can use the PC for.
Ideas ? Projects ?

Bejeweled.  Other popcap games.  I used to have a pile back in the day, but that HDD calved.  That is what I want to do with a touchscreen.  Popcap games, card games and slots.

Depending on where you have it in the room, you could use it for xmbc and launch videos from your network, assuming that is your sort of thing.

I was trying to think what the "genre" of games were called, the ones typically played on a touchscreen.
I guess they would be "touchscreen" games ! DUH me !
I never really played many, but thank you for the steer towards Bejewled and "Popcap."
Anything I can do to add more depth to the project is certainly good.

Right now I'm holding out to see if they seller flexes a lil on the price.
I had a deal negotiated for the touchscreen PC, PC had issues, seller offered another, however was out of my price range.
Should he be able to come back at my target price we will have a deal.

I just looked at popcap.  Years ago in the early 2000s they had a lot more games that were closer to bejeweled in that you matched things.  My favorite was tipsy turvy?  Different mixed drink glasses that you had to line up for points.  They also had collapse.  I guess they abandoned those older games.

Thanks Generic Eric.
I'm also going to check YouTube and see what people are using/playing.

Found this list

http://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1t0tna/touchscreen_friendly_games_on_steam/ce3cpda

Quote from: Someone else on the internet
Steam Games with Tablet versions:
  • Hero Academy - You can use the same 3rd Party account, as the iOS and Android version.
  • Frozen Synapse - You can use the same 3rd Party account, as the iOS and Android version. However Android and iOS version have Touch UI that the PC lacks.
  • Sword and Soldiers HD - Almost the exact same game as the Tablet.
  • Plants Vs Zombies - Almost the exact same game as the Tablet. -Most Popcap games can be counted here.
  • Faerie Solitaire - I don't own the Android Version say much, but I assume it 's identical.
  • Broken Sword Series - The Tablet Version is a port of the PC game. (It dates back to 1996.)
  • Anomaly Korea - Almost the exact same game as the Tablet.
  • Cogs - Steam Version is mouse driven. Not played on Android, so Game could be the same on the Tablet.
  • Crayon Physics Deluxe - Gameplay should better on a tablet over Keyboard/mouse combo.
  • Sword and Sorcery EP - Don't remember gameplay on either PC or Tablet, but games are available on both consoles.

Steam Games that I think are going to be fine on Steaming on Tablets: I'm listing games that have no need to keyboard controls if any. Most games listed are Turn based games and point and click games due to this Limit.
  • Monkey Island Series - Some games of the series do have Tablet versions, but not all do. Majority of the games should work well, assuming right clicks are not needed.
  • Sam and Max Series - there is a Driving Mini game in a few (earlier) games that is required to complete the game, It may not be possible to beat the mini-game without a keyboard.
  • Poker Night at the Inventory - Oh Blow it! Most of Telltales games should be playable on the tablet.
  • Defense Grid - Has a "tablet" mode which should work. Can't say much more about it. Normal Mouse mode may hurt the game play.
  • Super Sanctum TD - "Retro" Styled Tower Defence game. Almost All controls are tablet friendly.
  • Dungeons of Dredmor - Game could work on Tablet, but I forget if you need Right-click is need.
  • Ben there, Dan That & Time Gentlemen, Please! -Games could work on Tablet, but I forget if you need Right-click is need.
  • Gyromancer - It's Bejeweled Twist with RPG and Story.

BIG BUMP!
I still DID NOT get this PC !!!!!!!! (storms, baby, no sleep, no time, no contact)
HOWEVER - seller contacted me today and I'll go get this Thursday giving me the weekend to work on this.

I'll again begin the quest of looking for titles for the machine, so I thank everyone for the input/help.

Does anyone know if any touchscreen slot machine type games exist ?
I know my in-laws play tons of slots online. Just the other day I looked @ my father in-laws screen and saw him playing on some site. I thought to myself these new slots without the pull arm would play really well on a touchscreen.

With the advent of internet streaming and bluetooth, jukeboxes are so obsolete it's not even funny.    :P

I agree! I had a buddy at work laugh at me when I mentioned a "jukebox project." He told me he had a jukebox.....it's called an iPod! He's right! I guess an iPod really is a current form of a jukebox.

All be it we are in a hobby (the coin op scene) where nostalgia dominates. And many of the things we are into are EXTREMELY dated! I mean why would you have an arcade cabinet with ONE game when you can have a muti-cart, or a modified system with 1000's of games ? But we have these things cause we like them.

I've always wanted something cool (or what I thought was cool) to showcase my music. Something user friendly that visitors to my house would get a kick out of using. A jukebox was always on the want list, but as the man cave game to be I realized I didn't have the space to accommodate all my wants.

My jukebox has taken on soooo many different forms since 2007 ! However now it is as close to done as it's ever been and it's probably at it's most simple form. A 23" all in one touchscreen PC with Touch Jams, custom skinned by myself. The PC is paired with a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver, the receiver being connected to my existing AV equipment. Lastly I used Splashtop to be able to control the PC with my tablet....essentially acting as a super cool remote control IMHO.

The funny thing to me is everything works out of the box, no hacking, no modding, nothing really special. Just equipment and software doing what it was meant to do...but all working well together to enhance the experience.

I like that I can boot up the PC and it will go right into Touch Jams. Users will easily be able to create a playlist and enjoy the music in my "man cave."

The only issue I need to resolve is my Bluetooth pairing. In doing some tests on my other PC I noticed I always need to select the receiver in order for the music to be sent. Where are with my iPhone or even Samsung phone when I turn it on the connection is automatically made.

Think i got off topic huh ?>

"World of Goo" is pretty good on a touchscreen as is "Osmos"
