So I took my kids to our local Dave & Busters recently and was kind of surprised by the use of widescreen LCDs in the vertical position.  They looked really fun and attractive and my kids loved playing them.  One of the nicest looking arcade style cabinets was the Doodle Jump (go figure) which was actually set up as a redemption game but looked stunning with bright and crisp graphics and gameplay.

So this got me to thinking that I want to build a new bartop that is running a 21" widescreen monitor (vertical position) with newer games displaying high resolution graphics.  Does anyone know of some recent games or emulators that I can run and interface with a joystick and a couple of buttons that would look super sharp?  I have already done a 60-1 bartop as well as another couple bartops running CoinOps (with an original XBOX) and those are great.  But I really want something different running newer games but I'm not sure where to start looking.  Hopefully someone may be able to point me in the right direction?  Maybe I should go with Popcap games but I don't think they would display well with a vertical monitor.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.  Thanks!

I have the taito type x and Naomi systems running in a vertical setup, take a look at raiden iv, probably my favourite vertical game.

I will look into that.  Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm toying around with Hyperspin as a front end for some vertical games but it looks rather stretched with a widescreen monitor in the vertical position.  I don't mind if games that are played in the vertical position are slightly stretched but the front end menu really looks stretched so I'm deciding if I want to stay with that or not (I don't want black bars on any portion of the screen).

If anyone else has a suggestion for some recent vertical playing games please feel free to chime in.
