game ex joystick set up

hello when i am in the game ex front end i can use all my buttons and ultrastiks work fine, i select game it opens and nothing happens, when i exit out only player 2 stik works. i replaced slikstik that i think is using gp wiz or groovy game gear i think and just installed ultrastiks and never changed anything in the program, do i need to remove something from gamex for this or is it ok to just plug in ultrastiks and go in analog mode. i just dont want to have to hit tab and program every game as there are way to many for this, any thoughts for auto switching or mapping, thanks
