I've been meaning to build a small shop for ages.  This works amazingly well as an inspiration to get off my rear and "Just Do It!"  Thanks for the details!

Looks nice.  I built one of my workbenches out of a 6' piece of laminate counter ($35) and 2x6 frames.  This surface is great for all kinds of stuff.  I have another shorter (4') made of 3/4" ply if I need a place to beat on something:



Of course, now it looks more like this:
