GameStop Controller
« on: December 09, 2013, 11:48:16 pm »
Well I was looking for Christmas presents and I happen to come across a blue tooth controller from GameStop.  They were $29.99 but they are on clearance for $9.99.  They are sold out on line so you will have to call around your local shops to see if there is stock available.

I found one and it has a built-in battery with USB charge cable, pairs with Windows as a keyboard so it will work in your cab and the two analogue joys are arrow keys and I K J L keys.  It has an ESC key and Enter so it works with Android Tablets very well.  Has two triggers and shoulder buttons and the set up is better than the PS2 controller.  Nearly the weight of an 360 controller.

For ten bucks you cannot go wrong, especially if you have a cab that needs two cheap controllers for your emulators.

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

It comes with a utility to remap the keys?

No but you can remap them at your end, which would make sense if it was used with Android as it utilises the keyboard HID.  It makes the device more generic.

I'm  referring to your last sentence. About buying them for your cab if you need a couple of cheap controllers. AFAIK. I've never seen any flavor of Windows able to differentiate input between keyboards. Therefor if you buy two controllers, the buttons would map to the same keys.

They are gamepads, why are you talking about keyboards?  How Windows reads keyboards would have nothing to do with these.

You open notepad and the controller will output keyboard characters per keypress, ergo it is a keyboard HID.

I only have the one, in the instructions it implies that it is mappable but only via the host software.  Similar to the Zeemote for Android. Joy to key..

So if you have Mame you can map the controls to each controller per configuration set.  So my last comment will work out but you will have to do some tweaking in your controller setup.  My question is how to determine BT devices as separate configurations?

I bought an official ps3 dual shock 3 on amazon new a few months ago for just under $30. GameStop wanted $50. I know the ps3 controller is quality, and instantly works with my Mac via USB or Bluetooth. With windows, I need to install drivers and crap.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I have the Sony Xperia Z 10.  All I have to do is plug the PS3 controller in and it is all set.  Works with practically every emulator, no goofing around with BluezIME - thank you Sony!  :applaud:
