Low input Lag Small TV Reccomendation?
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:22:59 pm »
So, I'm in the planning stages of a bartop build based around an xbox console.  The xbox only supports component HD output.  I know there are devices that will allow me to convert component to VGA, but I've really not read much positive things about them and to me it's one more thing to cram into a small space and to have to power.  Nearly zero monitors included component input.

I've found the database for monitors and have done some searches on the subject but everything I find TV wise relates to large TV's 32" and up.

Is there a database for smaller TV's or anyone have any recommendations for s 23" or smaller size TV?

Or am I just splitting hairs at this point and the whole input lag is like chasing my tail on a TV based solution that small is just going to be cheap?

Thanks in advance for any advice

bartop + 20+x inch panel and xbox .. hm .. i prefer a gaming console in a fullsize cab and bartops with much smaller screens . if u have to go this route u may consider using a 1600x1200 4:3 ips panel like dell 2001 - 2007 . its a nice panel with vga mode capability . yuv to vga converters are working more or less lossles . u want notice any degradation in picture quality . i have some mayflash and neoya adapters in use ( with nec xm2960 , naomi , lcd ) without experiencing any probs .

original xbox can be modded to output VGA.

I actually just bought one of these Component/CGA to VGA boards off ebay this week and got it hooked up tonight.

Looks just like this one in the video -

It works well and was easy to use.  There is some slight sparkling going on and some odd wavy lines here and there, but I am more willing to chalk that up to my xbox component cables, I've only got the cheap Tomee brand (can't find anything else anymore)  And those have some ghosting and issues alone, especially when the audio is connected, they must not be shielded well.

I wanted to test out the xbox on a 4:3 17" monitor and compare it to my Dell 24" Widescreen I have, just to see the difference on vertical games in horizontal orientation.

I'm really torn on what to do.  Component directly into my Dell (which supports it) looks better to me than VGA.  But I want to build a bartop and this Dell I have weighs a T-O-N!  It weight like 21 lbs.  A new TV I would think would look even better and weigh less than half of that.

So do I do single player 17" 4:3 with vga board or two player   22" Widescreen with component.  Decisions, decisions...
