Frontend questions.....
« on: June 19, 2004, 09:24:55 pm »
OK, be gentle.....

I downloaded Mamewah, and looked at it, then got confused, and found mamewah setup utility, and then managed to at least get it RUNNING and stuff. Now, I'll admit, that with enough time, I could probably get what I wanted out of it, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

What I want in a frontend, is Mame32, but pretty, like mamewah. I want to be able to sort by subcategories (classic, fighting, puzzle, adult, sports, etc...). That's the most important thing, I have a FULL set of .78 roms that I want to KEEP on the machine, I just don't want to see them all in a 4000+ long list.

I'm running windows XP. I will admit that I haven't really looked into many of the frontends, and I'm impatient. So, my question boils down to this.... Should I keep fiddling with mamewah, or is there another frontend for use with windows XP that is easily configurable, etc...etc...

Side question - CAN I sort everything into sub-cats like mame32 through mamewah without creating subdirectories and doing it all manually? Manually sorting out 4000 games is not something I would enjoy. What Frontends do most people use?

MAMEWAH is sctually one of the easier ones to configure. It supports custom lists w/ filters. You can filter by genre, bios, control type, etc. It will do everything you stated you want it to do and when you get the hang of it, it really is a great front end.

I think you can use the MAMEWAH Setup app to do the custom lists as well.

Most frontends have the ability to sort MAME games into lists via categories using the catver.ini file or some other data file.

As far as Mamewah is concerned you can set this up very easily by making custom lists.  I have done a few videos which demonstrate this, you can check them out here.
