I know you weren't Malenko, I just got the feeling from a few of the comments that some of you thought I haven't given the series a far chance... I've given it every benefit of the doubt over the years and the control scheme is just too sloppy to be fun.
Your negative take on the wii just boggles my mind. There are certainly a niche group of people that didn't like the console, but those people typically fell into the "fps dude bro" sect. Considering you tend to like platformers and Nintendo style games I just don't understand. The Wii was the most fun I've had on a console or pc for that matter, in years. Mind you the games dried out about 2 years before the Wii U came out, but other than that.
I think Nintendo is wising up to what the public wants, at least in terms of this new Mario game. Since the n64 era I've been a bit disturbed that Nintendo thought we wanted sprawling, exploratory, elements in a Mario game. Mind you the 3d Mario's are great, but the highlights of the series since the N64 days have been the "almost 2d" bonus stages in the various games. This would be ok if Zelda, Metroid and Mario hadn't all started to use similar gameplay mechanics and gimmicks. It looks like they are going to make Mario more of a classical platformer now, which I think is a step in the right direction.
marioxb.... I wouldn't be surprised if the new Mario uses some sort of touch screen functionality and we don't know if it supports the classic controller yet. Actually I think rapheal's avr this time isn't going to be sueful outside of the VC, because since the "hardcore" controller was released fewer and fewer games support the now obsolete classic controller.
