recent additions...

I went to the Winston Salem auction yesterday and found some more junk for my collection. First one is this Namco Air Combat Sitdown. The monitor is missing, but the rest of it seems to be there. The PCB stack is missing in the picture, but I did get them with the cab. Nobody else bidded, so I got this one for $25. The thing I'm kicking myself about is a large projection monitor from some newer simulator was auctioned about 10 games before they got to this one. I didn't bid on it, not knowing if I'd win this one. It went for $35.  :-\

The other thing I picked up was this Hard Drivin' sitdown. The shifter is missing, but otherwise it's all there. It doesn't power up, and I won it for $20. This brings me up to 4 sit down games, 1 more and I'll have as many sitdowns as I do upright cabs. :)

Are they working?
How do you get those cabinets for $30?

Nope, neither is currently working. Why they went so cheap? I think it's partly due to the age of the games, and partly due to the size and bulk of a sitdown.

Neither game is a real classic, nor are the new enough to make an operator any money. Most collectors/home buyers would rather not have to deal with moving a broken 1000+ cab around and go after uprights instead. I actually prefer sitdowns, have the space for them, and own a forklift so moving them isn't an issue for me. ;)

I want go get a sitdown.  But the talk around here lately was not to mame it, make it a PC driver?

My kids and their friends would love one of those.

yep, those driving cabs can be dirt cheap at the auctions. the last one i attended, they were giving them away(well practically). fully working linked sitdowns for like $150. not the newer ones mind you, i'd say early 90's titles, but still dual 25" monitors and working games. i was fairly surprised, i usually take a break when they come around to those. not now heh, next time i'll be better prepared(read w/ trailer).

@crsdawg: Bring friends, or a pair of 4 wheel dollys. I had a lot of fun trying to load these in my trailer as both cabs had missing/damaged casters. I'm seriously concidering replacing my trailer's ramp with a liftgate, it would make loading stuff much easier.

@ Hyperion: The auction company that does Winston Salem is Auction Games Sales. They're holding an auction this coming weekend in Baltimore, and another next month in Knoxville. They hold at least 3 a year in Winston-Salem, the next should be either in January or Febuary. Their home page is at: www.auctiongamesales.com though they don't have any dates listed yet for next year. Bookmark it and check back next month, they should have new dates up before too long.

@JackTucky: If I can't fix it, I'll likely convert the Air Combat into a PC based flight sim system. Instead of a PC it would make more sense to convert a driving sitdown to a console system, as all the good driving games these days come out on Playstation or X-Box.

...wow. That's too cool....especially the prices you paid.

I'm sure you can rig up any solid console to these suckers and have a kick ass machine to play with.

Enjoy!....I wish I had the space, the forklift, etc.

The MameMaster!
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?
