Does anyone have this setup?  How's it working for you?  What OS and Mame version are you using?

If you look on the Ultimarc site, I'm pretty sure that using the Arcade VGA with the D9200 won't really get you anything.  Since the D9200 is a VGA monitor, it doesnt support the full range of resolution switching like the 15khz arcade monitors.  So in effect, you have a specialized VGA card that will be the same as having a regular ATI card.  This also means that you'll have to use hardware stretching with most games, which will result in a less arcade-authentic look.  It's really supposed to be used for interfacing normal arcade monitors, and Andy doesn't recommend using it with VGA monitors (if you want to use the full range of resolutions.)

Also, 15khz monitors are generally less expensive than VGA compatible arcade monitors.

Actually it was Andy who recommended the WG D9200 as the best arcade monitor to go with his Arcade VGA card.  This is what he told me:  "If you can afford a Wells-Gardner D9200 then this is the best. There is a utility for the ArcadeVGA which resets the 640 X 480 resolutions back to normal so the 31Khz capability of the monitor can be used as well as the 15Khz modes."

It's a pricey monitor but everyone who has one seems to think it's a great choice.  I hope it works for me as well as all these other guys!

I just got the D9200 - and I'm planning on getting andy's card.   My understanding is that the d9200 will switch between 15, 25 and 31khz pretty easily with andy's card and it's utilities - none or very minimal hardware stretching required for most games.  AND no tricky advmame to deal with (eww!).  Plus with his new d9200 utility you get a good windows desktop of 800x600 with no panning and no interlacing.   Seems like the perfect setup for Pc games/mame/daphne/movies/etc etc etc, which is why i'm doing it  ;D

Yeah it seemed like the best choice from all the research I did.  I saw somewhere they have a 9300, not sure what the difference is but I already ordered the 9200.

Veto did you find a good deal anywhere on the D9200 or did you just get it from WG?

There are some people that have used an Act-lab's gun with varying success on a true arcade monitor. To ensure best compatability, you might have to set the game to 640x480, that way the monitor is running at 31KHz that the gun expects.

I think 1UP was confusing the D9200, which can take 15KHz and 31KHz with the U3100 that only takes 31KHz.

Oddly it seems that the D9200 and 27" arcade monitors are very comparable in price, even cheaper if you can find a good deal on it. If you're not going to get a used monitor, the D9200 seems to be the best choice.

What act labs gun do you need for the d9200 ?
would it still be the standard pc version or the 15khz gun ?

  thanks

I got mine from americangaminginc.com for 497.00 shipped.  I think WG's site wants 495.00 before shipping.

Edit- i'm talking about the d9200.   :)

Run your D9200 in 31Khz mode when using the gun.   It needs a true VGA signal.

Can anyone verify that the Act Labs light gun doesn't work with 15Khz?
