Modify Dragon's Lair II control panel?
« on: July 31, 2013, 05:40:55 pm »
I just accquired a Tekken 2 that was in a Dragon's Lair II cab pretty similar to this one:

(Not in this good of shape, with all black sides and pretty much no art).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew why that control panel was so large? Especially for this game which only needs a joystick and one button! Currently my cab (which is again, NOT the one pictured) has two joysticks and 4 buttons per player (plus the start buttons). I don't really like how the panel sticks out and I need all the space I can get anyway. I was just wondering if I:

a. either cut the control panel down to match the depth of the cab (or whatever the most common CP size is on most cabs) -OR-

b. order a say SFII control panel from ebay or make one that would fit.

I want 6/7 buttons per player for two players. Would a control panel that size be uncomfortable on this cab? Anyone try anything like this before, or have a cab like this?

I say just leave it and drill away for your holes. That is a nice size for 2 players with 7 buttons each. Especially for fighting games (elbow room)

Sent from my Atari 2600

Yeah, maybe you're right. Although mine already has lots of holes in it. Besides the four buttons and two joysticks and start buttons for Tekken, turning it upside down reveals the original joystick hole in the middle and lots more button holes.

Do they make the bondo-equivalent for metal?
