Control Panel question

Working on my cardboard layout now for my CP.  I was planning on making a 4 player similar to http://webpages.charter.net/rbecker5/plans.html#design .  One question I had, almost all the guides/plans I see out there go for a slanted CP.  Is there any reason why I couldn't just slant the shelf that the CP sits on and make the CP a flat box?  The reason I'm asking, I'm dreading all the angle cuts to slant my control panel box.

I suppose you could but wouldn't that result in a gap between the CP and the cab?

Well angels like that aren't nearly as difficult as you think, especially when using Bondo/Wood Filer hides so many of them.

The angels are commonly used so you as a player kind of know where to stand/have your own area.  One of the challenges with a square box is where players 3/4 stand.  The next challenge is that if the box is too big, you can have a big space in the middle where the CP isn't supported.  With 3/4" MDF it's not really and issue but something to consider if you have people beating down on it.

So you can do it, you just need to be mindful of positioning and stability.

Oh sorry, it won't be a square box, it will be half hexagon, similar to the plan.  I just mean the slant where the back of the CP is say 4" tall, while the front is 3" tall.  If it was a box, that wouldn't be too hard, but seeing the odd angles of the middle pieces, I was worried about how hard/easy that is to do.

It really is only one cut for the slope of the control panel as the one cut will give you two pieces.  If you don't have a table saw with an adjustable fence, you can always clamp a guide for your scroll saw or other hand held power saw and run the saw along the guide.
