Macbook Mod
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:57:44 am »
Thought I would share a mod I did to my lady's Macbook. Not a fan of Apple products, but I can respect the hardware

I was replacing the shell of her laptop and like I always do, talked the owner of the device to let me make it "better"\"unique"

The top shell - Removed Apple logo, sanded down the white backing to it and painted it a nice red

Changed out the "Sleep, startup, whatever thingy" SMD LED in the front from White to Red (this was an exceptional pain as I had to break some of the internal frame to get to it)

She is a frenchy so I gave her a custom keyboard layout (Ukelele) so she had access to any special characters needed - She is a fan of hearts so I made the layout icon a Heart instead of some random flag

All this coupled with 9 gigs of RAM and an upgraded hybrid HDD\SSD to giver her more space speed

 Good Day.

Can you explain your issue more clearly, and why you now refer to it to a macmini? I think I got it, but just so I am clear.

The battery charger circuit on the logic board is not behaving, and when you remove the battery (good at 98% full charge) it is a brick unless you put the power cord in.  So instead of a an expensive laptop I have a mac mini.

DO you know what caused this? Water damage? A fall?

I ask because I fixed a damaged mainboard from a macbook unibody that had several issues, one including not charging the battery properly. It would charge sometimes but not always. I did an oven reflow on it, fixed the video issues and the charging ones.

If you are comfortable with doing this you can give it a try. Or just replace the mainboard with another one from ebay.....But what is the fun in that.

In fact if you go this route you might as well try to repair it with a reflow before ordering, cause if you break it you are already ordering a new one.

Good Luck.
