weird direct3d lag issues
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:07:18 am »
*edit- Mame .148 the computer can run modern games fairly well, except i threw in an ati x300 video card because im using a CRT TV and ive heard they are good for that. im sure its something to do with the video card.

With direct3d enabled games such as gunforce and metal slug have tons of video lag, no input lag or anything. when I turn it off the gamnes runs SUPER fast its funny but annoying. I have tried searching the forums but the search function isnt much help.

try -nomt (I believe -mt was turned on by default in 148, but it causes problems for some people)

Add it to your command line

mame.exe -nomt

It's multi-threading.
I'm just a dumb end-user, so I can't tell you why it causes issues depending on hardware and what options are enabled.  :P

Lag can also be caused by a few other options in mame.

Hold on and let me go down the list:

sleep (needs to be set to 0)
priority (needs to be set to 0)

Same goes for some in the Metal Slug series.

It's multi-threading.

Oh. Despite using an old P4 and Gforce 6800....or maybe because of them......I never have any of the issues people have with current MAME, and I rarely run from the command line anymore.

That's most likely because you are running an old, busted version of MAME.

It's like bragging that you can run the pc version of sf2 on your machine when others are referring to problems, with SF X Tekken.  Apples and Oranges man.

I'll re-write it to make sure there's no possibility of discrepency: I do not have any issues with current MAME on my old rig.

are you ONLY having problems when going to the TV?  Have you tried a VGA monitor with the ATI?  I'm wondering if its the component out, or the TV circuitry itself (I had this happen with a component -> tv input lagging a bit, making my remote for my directtv a pain.  No problem watching tv, but the lag made controls hard to use)

Either that or your rams ---fouled up beyond all recognition---. Im not sure about ATI x300 being good for CRT either. I had one of those came with a machine I had it was shite.

This is you've disabled throttling. There is a tick box somewhere in Mame. Must be on the display tab but I cant look ATM. Which slows down the frame rate when older games go mental like 400/500% speed of originals.  What you did is. Got trouble with some games not working, played with the options and unchecked it. Did this exact same thing myself. Spent a day pulling my hair out.
