No video: Double Dragon II
« on: November 06, 2003, 05:47:06 pm »
Hello.  I know absolutely nothing about constructing arcade components, so I hope this goes in the right forum.

I've found a Double Dragon II arcade game.  Upon plugging it in, everything seems to work fine except video:  the CRT isn't even getting power.  So, I was wondering where to start looking for the problem.  Do you have any suggestions?

Please understand that I'm just a newbie with an ignorant question (if that hasn't yet been made obvious), so advanced electronics vocabulary scares me!

Also, we need to know the make & model of the monitor.

No.

Ha ha!  No, I haven't; I wouldn't know where to start.  How many fuses should I find and where?  Fuses that are burnt out will appear opaque and discolored, correct?

And, I'll try checking for the make and model of the monitor.  I'm pretty sure it may be the original because it seems fairly old:  Looking with the right angle of light, I can see "burnt in" images on the screen:  "Game Over", "Score", etc.

I was just hoping that it would be possible to repair the thing; it would be a shame for it to be trashed.  As things are, I'm pretty surprised that it hasn't been already:  it sits in a dorm lobby next to a big screen T.V. that's probably not half as old as the arcade cab, and it's trashed beyond repair.

There are times where a fuse will appear to be good, but actually isn't. This is where you need a good multimeter to test it.

Can you post a picture of the cabinet? If possible take the back door off and take a picture of the interior of the machine then we can point you as to where to check.

I'll try posting a pic soon; I have a friend with a digital camera, so he might be able to help me out...

How much should a mulitmeter cost?  I'm assuming Radio Shack is the place to get one.

An actual dynamo double dragon II cabinet?  White CPO or Tan CPO?

Gah.  There's got to be a collection of these acronyms somewhere... I'm sorry; I'm incapable of even guessing what CPO stands for.

Well, I found the owner of the arcade cabinet earlier today.  As it turns out, he has already ordered a replacement part, so it's not for sale.  This could be sad news, but on the bright side, one quarter gets 5 credits.  Also, I wanted my first arcade game to be a better one, so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise:  this little ordeal has only fanned the flames of my passion for obtaining an arcade game of my own!

Thanks for the help, guys.
